Synopsis

On October 24, 2006, Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos and a delegation of the Congreso Nacional Indígena (CNI) visit the Yaqui traditional authorities in the town of Vicam, in the state of Sonora, north-western Mexico. The issue: the participation of the Yaqui people in the CNI and “Otra Campaña”. While the dance of the deer is a reminder that the Yaquis keep their indigenous culture alive, their authorities deliberate on their decision.

The Yaqui Agreement is part of the Indigenous Words of Northwest Mexico series. Its documentaries visit indigenous peoples, peasant communities and fishers of north-western Mexico, revealing the daily lives of their protagonists and the situations they face in maintaining their land and identity.
