Alma is a 9-year-old girl who lives in urban USA, but when she loses her mother, she has to travel to the home of her grandmother Esperanza in an indigenous village in the Mexican mountains. The girl and her grandmother had never met before and do not even share the same language. Yet they are able to wordlessly connect and help each other.
