Synopsis
The high mountain ranges rise above the clouds. At times they seem to merge with the sky itself. There is no God and there is no devil. We are in the heights of the Peruvian Andes, more than 5000 meters above sea level. Celestino, a peasant hermit (51), is accompanied by his decrepit family, his daughter Yaquelin (17) and his mother-in-law Mamá Agustina (85), who survive the inclement weather and the altitude.
Celestino must face the ravages of the inclement weather; the frost has ruined the crops and they will not be able to survive the next season; it is a decision of life or death. The lack of resources leads the whole family to take a different path and the family falls apart. Celestino is left alone and has to get rid of his only remaining asset, his precious cow Samichay. A skinny, sickly cow that has never given calves or milk. Celestino and Samichay embark on a journey of redemption and discovery, from the solitude of the mountains to the suffocating chaos of the cities, a clash of rural versus urban.
A fiction film with auteur overtones by the Peruvian director Mauricio Franco Tosso, which has been screened at international festivals such as the Malaga Film Festival and the Viña del Mar International Film Festival.
