The IndiFest Indigenous Film Festival of Barcelona is an initiative of alterNativa Intercanvi amb Pobles Indígenes (alterNativa Mutural Exchange with Indigenous Peoples) in coordination with the Coordinadora Latinoamericana de Cine y Comunicación de los Pueblos Indígenas (Latin American Coordinator of Indigenous Peoples’ Film and Communication, CLACPI) to open spaces for cultural diversity, approach the reality of indigenous peoples and to give visibility and voice to the struggles for territory and the processes of defence of internationally recognised rights. It is also an opportunity to learn about their cultures and approach their realities and contexts from their own discourse and perspective, creating a real exchange and defining the world in a more just, diverse and sustainable way.
The theme for the 15th festival is the indigenous languages of the world, in defence of the native languages of peoples and their plight. We join a global community for the preservation, revitalisation, promotion and support of minority and endangered languages, at the start of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages promoted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
